With sprawling landscapes, idyllic vineyards and the most beautiful art in the world, Tuscany is a vocational haven that gives you the respite you need from everyday life. Plan out your itinerary and venture out through Tuscany to explore all the treasures it holds.

Tuscan History

Tuscany is a land rich in history with great medieval clashes, the rise and fall of the Medici and most importantly, the Renaissance. Initially inhabited by the Etruscans, the land was ruled over by the Romans. After their defeat, the region came to be known as Tuscany. During the 15th century, the Medici were powerful aristocrats that allowed the birth of the Renaissance. This period of art and literature gave rise to celebrated writers such as Dante, Macchiavelli as well as prominent artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. In 1861, Tuscany was made a part of Italy and today serves as a great cultural center to the world.

Peruse the Streets

Most visitors to Tuscany are connoisseurs of art who come to bask in the glorious masterpieces displayed all over the region. At the Accademia Gallery and the Uffizi, prized treasures such as the grand statue of David and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus are proudly exhibited along with various other art pieces. Visit the Torre Pendente, more commonly known as the Leaning Tower, and bask in amazement at this wonder of the world. The Duomo cathedral, with its gothic design, has a staggeringly beautiful façade and is a great icon. Be sure to taste the delicious ice-cream, or gelatos, that can be found all over the region, although the Vivoli in Florence is credited with havingthe best ones.

Cities to Roam Around

The region of Tuscany is filled to the brim with exciting cities, all beautiful in their own right. The capital of Tuscany, Florence, is known to be the place that gave birth to the Renaissance and is brimming with artwork from the period. Pisa is another city with many piazzas to traipse through, especially the Piazza dei Miracoli. Sample the truffles at San Miniato before venturing out to the vineyards of Chianti to experience wine as never before. Take in the glorious vistas at Cortona and head over to the charming city of Sienna, with its idyllic cobblestone streets and, if you should have the chance, be sure to experience the Palio, a horse race that happens twice every year. Choose a great deal on a cheap car rental from and easily make your way around.

Weather Facts

The weather should be especially considered when planning a trip to Tuscany because the summers are gruelingly hot. The best weather to visit is from April through to June and from September to October, when the moderate weather allows one to easily partake in the many activities.
