GUIDE TO CHARLOTTE

Credited with having one of the best airport views in the United States, Charlotte Douglas International Airport is tailored to provide an aesthetically pleasant time for passengers flying to and from Charlotte, NC. Despite its status as the eleventh busiest airport in the country, the passenger traffic does not bother one much because of the spacious structure of the facility. Charlotte, the most populous city of North Carolina, remains an economic hotspot of United States. Behind New York City in the queue, Charlotte is the country's second-largest banking center for which it has acquired the nickname "Banktown."

HISTORY

The History of Charlotte, North Carolina is profound. Following thousands of years of indigenous cultures dating back at least 6000 years, the Iswa, now known as the Catawba tribe, named so by the Colonists after the Catawba river, was the first tribe that settled in Charlotte around the mid 1500s. Europeans began settling in the area around 1755 growing into "Charlotte Town" in 1768. Discovery of gold in the area throughout its early history led to a series of gold rushes following the American Revolution. Further economic development came after the Civil War, with the cotton industry and establishment of a railroad hub. In 1910, the city surpassed Wilmington to become North Carolina's biggest city and with one brief exception in 1920, has maintained that status. Beginning in the 1970s and continuing throughout the 1980s, the city's modern-day banking industry achieved the prominence for which it is still known today.

Things to Do - Places to Drive

Charlotte offers a wide range of activities. Visit Charlotte's Mint Museum Uptown that houses a wide variety of American and European artefacts. Carowinds also boasts its water park, Boomerang Bay, with long lazy rivers and water slides for the pacifists. Uptown Charlotte has its own hustle and bustle, but one can find better means to escape by visiting the ever-refreshing Freedom Park. The park is one of the most favorite spots of Charlotteans and homes several baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts among other recreational activities.

Drive northeast of downtown Charlotte to Concord, where you can catch a race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Visit the facility in May or October if you want to see an adrenaline-fuelled race. Drive down half a mile west of the city center and head to the 7th Street Public Market where you'll find Charlotte's local collection of wines, flowers, and some sweet and savoury treats. In the street, stop by city's favourite pizza junction, Pure Pizza, known for using ingredients that come right from this market which combine to form a delicious mouth-watering bonanza for your tastebuds
