Ancient Times

What is today recognized as Istanbul was colonized by the Greeks back in the 7th century and was called Byzantine by their king, Byzas. Later on, it came to be known as Constantinople, after the emperor Constantine declared the city the capital to the Eastern Roman Empire. The city has seen and persevered through years of war and onslaught and it was in the year 1453, when the Ottomans invaded and seized the area, naming it Istanbul.
